On the Ground Up; Community Conversations with the Blue Line” is a collaborative piece between Harper Steinbach, Hennepin County, and Cultivate Arts to create opportunities to engage community members along the proposed metro Blue Line. Steinbach created a larger-than-life coloring sheet which she brought to four sites located on the proposed Blue Line route. The coloring sheet, made with chalk paint and paint markers, was meant to provide a shared activity for the community while Blue Line information was shared and community feedback was collected. The idea behind the “coloring sheet” was to create a low-pressure tool to engage the community and access feedback. The book documents the visits throughout September of 2022 and highlights both the art made by community members as well as their thoughts about the proposed Blue Line project (in written form) and each chalk project. The booklet and report are meant to act as a tool for key partners to hear voices coming from those that will be impacted by the Blue Line.
